Saori Weaving Workshop

Craft Central, 397-411 Westferry Road, London, E143AE

Saturday, May 12 2018 from 11:00 am to 01:30 pm

Create your own piece of cloth to take home and use as a scarf, table runner or wall hanging. (other ideas can be discussed)

During this workshop you will be introduced Saori, its history in Japan and the philosophy of this intuitive way of weaving.
I will introduce you to the basic techniques and discuss individual projects with each participant before we start.

We will talk about:
-warp and weft
-shuttles, bobbins, peddles and heddles
-different yarns
- various ways to experiment with colour, texture, pattern and tension.

Your cloth will be 30-40cm wide and have a minimum length of 1 metre, mainly depending on the weight of the yarns.

A large circle of floor looms in the main area will be our working environment and each participant will have their loom to use for the duration of the workshop. All looms are fully set up with a simple black warp.
I will provide a good range of yarns and other textile materials to choose from.
All materials are included, but participants are welcome to bring their own yarn if they wish to.
There will be a short tea/coffee break.
No prior weaving experience needed.

Cost £65 per person
